Ellen is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and is deeply passionate about helping people recover from their self-destructive habits and achieve a sense of balance and peace. She works with children, adolescents, adults and couples. Her specialties include anxiety disorders, mood disorders, relationship conflicts, and eating disorders.
Some of her clients have described Ellen as “warm,” “funny,” and “understanding.” She has an eclectic style that incorporates techniques from cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and mindfulness. She is passionate about individualizing therapy to the unique needs and preferences of each client, and making sure that therapy helps people make practical changes in their everyday life.
Ellen received her undergraduate training in Psychology and English Literature at Boston University. She then studied at Chapman University’s Marriage and Family Therapy program, where she participated in research projects on social skills training programs, and on the use of acceptance and commitment therapy to treat anxiety, mood and eating disorders. She later went on to receive further post-graduate training in dialectical behavioral therapy, family based eating disorder treatment, somatic resourcing for trauma therapy, and emotion focused couples therapy.
Prior to joining the team at CBT Treatment Center, Ellen was the Program Director of several eating disorder and mental health treatment programs. She has been a local leader in the eating disorder field and is passionate about helping people make peace with their bodies and with food and exercise. She is a member in good standing of the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals, and the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists.
When she’s not practicing therapy, Ellen enjoys yoga, true crime stories, and spending time with her husband and dog. She’s a native Angelino, coffee shop lover, Lakers fan, and modern dance aficionado. She believes therapy is her calling and is thrilled to be a part of the CBT Treatment Center team.
